Pumpkin Soup

I thought for sure that I would be sick of pumpkin by now, but this year the novelty has not yet worn off, and I think its because I've done a decent job at keeping the pumpkin lattes, pies and cakes to a minimum. I served this soup after coming back from a hike with some friends. Short on time, I opted for quick and easy (and creamy) recipe that did not disappoint.  Few things are more comforting than a warm cup of soup after a day out in the cold.

Spiced Applesauce Cake

I've been looking for an excuse to bake a cake for weeks now. Since the hot summer months are over and there are so many flavorful fruits currently in season, I figured it would be the perfect time to bake a fall inspired cake. And lucky for me (and him), it just so happens to be my dad's birthday next week. He gravitates towards baked goods with a fruit component so when I saw this recipe I knew it was right up his alley. I haven't had the chance to go apple picking (yet), so I cheated and used store bought organic applesauce. Regardless, the cake was deliciously moist and the cream cheese frosting balanced out the spices perfectly. Next time I bake this I may even consider leaving out the frosting and serving it for breakfast.

A new place, a new look

Moving is hard. I dread packing, and I don't like change. Yet somehow I'll soon be making the the trek (in less than two months..eek!) from northern Rhode Island all the way to the heart of Providence- a whole thirty minutes (that's Rhode Island mentaility for you) so I can be closer to my job. I love the city so naturally I'm very excited but equally as overwhelmed. I haven't even started apartment hunting, which might be minor issue. Instead, I have been blissfully preoccupied by countless interior design websites. There are so many clever ideas out there I would love to try. I have been looking for a good opportunity to re-vamp my living space so this move comes at a great time. Pictured are some ideas that i've been drawing inspiration from.

Of Woes and Wool

While parting ways with my summer clothing and re-introducing fall knits back into my closet, I have been faced with the realization that i don't like any of my sweaters. They are either ill-fitting, too worn out or not the right shade. Why I am just figuring this out I could not tell you. I have been browsing through shops but cant seem to find anything that I like. My efforts have now been reduced to online shopping in the hopes of finding a few key sweaters to even out my (lacking) fall wardrobe. Does anyone else periodically go through completely unnecessary "I hate everything in my closet, it's the end of the world" freak outs?

Here's what has caught my eye:

classic, crisp and cable knit. boom.
this gem is perfect. it also happens to be out of stock
(and now begrudgingly out of mind)

slouchy sweater for a laid back saturday

this swiss dot is sold out. onto the next...
love fair isle sweaters, always have, always will.

Ireland

I went to Ireland a few months ago with my boyfriend and absolutely fell in love with the country (...despite all that rain and their bland oversized portions of food). Ireland had been on my bucket list for as long as I could remember, and the journey lived up to the hype. I stayed in Dublin (Cheers!) and snaked my way through the southern regions-Cork, Limerick, Killarney, etc. I was sure hit many of the tourist hot spots but balanced it out by going off the beaten path a bit too. I know I'm a little late sharing, but here are some photos from my trip..

An autumn reverie, a fresh start

endless bales- matunuck, ri

Just a quick note to say: I'm back! My hiatus wasn't intentional...It just sort of happened. I've missed connecting with people, organizing my thoughts and taking real photos. Inspired by the change in weather, it is the fall foliage, the smell of baking, the open windows, the freshly rolled bales of hay and the crisp air that have reminded me why I started this blog in the first place- as a platform to capture what i love and express it through a creative outlet. So here I am. And what better way to start off than by sharing why I think it's the most wonderful time of the year..
hot out of the oven
trails for miles
iced lattes from the coffee exchange
comfy plaids
bursts of color
